DATA INTELLIGENCE & GEOGRAPHY

Geospatial Intelligence

The exponential increase in remotely and proximately sensed data is revolutionizing how we understand and manage urban ecosystem. The integration of disparate datasets can generate new knowledge where the 'sum is greater than its parts'. We devise and apply new geospatial intelligence approaches to answer original research questions and test hypotheses at a range of spatial (local, landscape, macrosystem, global) and temporal scales (seasonal, annual, multidecadal).

Unravelling Big Data

Big data promise to revolutionize how we understand urban systems. However, the challenges of making sense of what models, algorithms and codes tell us are far from being resolved. Here we seek to apply novel analytical approaches that leverage the increasing availability of big data to measure emerging, interactive and complex properties of urban systems. Can we ultimately recreate urban 'digital twins' and 'synthetic cities' to advance urban science?

Sensing for Urban Science

An incredible variety of sensors, instruments, platforms continuously monitor and measure data across cities and town. These data troves offer unparallel opportunities for urban science when data fluxes can be homogenized, integrated and validated. Whether by using TDR probes to monitors soil moisture or hyperspectral cameras fitted on drones, the research challenge to make sense and extract knowledge from disparate sensors is still wide open.
